I’m lucky enough to have another Top 5 published at Heavy Magazine highlighting the work of cinematographer Roger Deakins. Deakins on the occasion of his 14th Oscar nomination won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography this week for Blade Runner 2049. I felt the film was one of the best of last year and was happy to see Deakins win following such incredible work over the past four decades which includes Sid & Nancy, The Shawshank Redemption, Jarhead, No Country For Old Men, Skyfall and Sicario. You can check out some of the iconic looks of the film here https://heavymag.com.au/top-5-blade-runner-2049-iconic-images/ Feel free to leave a comment or share and I hope you enjoy.
Heavy is an independent magazine and website that is all about the music and specifically heavy music and supporting the Australian music scene in general. Fortunately for me they do cover film as well and I have been fortunate to have a few things published there.

You are preaching to the converted on this one, Lloyd. I shall definitely be getting this film on DVD.
Thank you John, what was your favourite scene or image from the film?
I thought ‘Sicario’ was one of the most beautifully photographed films I have seen in ages.
You know how I feel about BR 2049, so enough said. Well done for getting more stuff published mate.
Cheers, Pete.,
As I said in my own review, the ‘joining’ scene of the women was indeed breathtaking.
A remarkable scene on many levels.
Thanks Pete, Sicario is gorgeous and another great collaboration between Deakins and director Denis Villeneuve. I remember watching one of the shots early on in that film and really enjoying how it was put together. I gestured to my friend sitting next to me in the cinema that this was going to be a good one. Always a joy when you’re watching a film and something like that happens and you realise you’re in safe hands. Another moment like that was when I saw the opening shot of Once Were Warriors.
I also love the cinematography in ‘There Will Be Blood’. Always a joy, to see a film ‘photographed’.
Best wishes, Pete.
That’s a good one too.
Not loved by the critics of course, nor many film bloggers. I thought it was majestic.
Are you kidding? Sicario was one of the most well received films critically that year and a hit. Who were these bloggers?
Sorry. I was talking about ‘There will be blood’ mate. π
Really that’s another winner. I don’t remember box office but I thought it was well regarded. One of PTA’s best.
There’s a feeling a deju vu to this discussion about Sicario. π
I may well be living my life again, Lloyd. It’s easy to forget things at my age. π
