LLOYD MARKEN: SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD

CFY Sunshine Blogger award

I consider myself very lucky and grateful to have been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Alan over at Content For You. Alan’s Blog is a great source of information, predominantly full of entertainment industry news, film reviews and interesting pieces of trivia about films and those that make them. Always eager to reblog something he enjoys from another blogger, his site allowed me to learn of the work of not just him but other fellow bloggers whose work I’ve come to enjoy. Please check out his answers here.

The aim of the game with the Sunshine Blogger award is to answer 11 questions Alan asked of me and then write my own questions for 11 Bloggers I nominate to answer. Thanks once again Alan, you’re a champ. I hope to avoid asking too many questions people have already received from previous nominations.

First up Alan asks the following 11 questions, any other readers please put your answers in the comments section

  1. You are on a desert island for a year, you can only take 3 movies with you, 1 action, 1 comedy and one drama, what would they be? I humbly submit Thelma and Louise could serve as a perfect example of all 3. Off the time of my head let’s throw Lethal Weapon and About Time in there too.
  2. Pick your favourite actor who played Bond? Sir Sean Connery. Accept no substitutes.
  3. Name a movie which you love but hardly anyone else seems to like? Only my wife and I seem to have seen About Time. What is wrong with you people?
  4. An actor or actress who no matter how bad the movie is you still want to watch it because the actor or actress is so good? I’ve followed Harrison Ford through some dog shit and loved him in it.
  5. What would have been the greatest decade for most high quality movies released? I don’t think you can beat the 1970s for American movies. I’m still hoping to see so many titles from that era and of course I grew up in the aftermath of that period that influenced so many of the movies I went and saw. I’ve noticed lately I’m getting nostalgia for films from the 90s more and more and I think that has to do with what the time meant to me as much as anything but it’s the 70s kids.
  6. What movie do you never want to see again, even if your life depended on it? If my life depends on it, I’ll see it okay! I will say the worst movie I ever saw was Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Movie for Your Colon or something like that. Ten minutes in I treated it like an endurance test and a matter of pride to sit and watch the whole thing. Years ago I watched the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre believing it was more than based on actual events. That dinner sequence at the end was excruciating but at least I can see the craft and success in what Tobe Hooper achieved there. Aqua Teen Hunger Force just sucked. I hated, hated, hated it.Image result for aqua teen hunger force movie for colon
  7. Of the current crop of teen and 20s actors-actresses who will still be a big star when they are 55? There’s no doubt in my mind that Elle Fanning and Emma Watson are fantastic actresses. Whether they’re big in 30 years is a crapshoot. Hollywood has no rhyme or reason and we’ve got a long way to go before there’s more roles for women over 40. Is it bad that girls came to mind. I thought of Felicity Jones immediately but she’s in her 30s. I think Aaron Taylor-Johnson had a moment in Kick-Ass. I’d like to see him still around too.
  8. For every one movie you watch in a theatre how many do you watch at home? That’s a tough one. Maybe 4.
  9. If you could spend one hour with a movie star past or present who would it be and why? James Stewart. Part of it would be that he is a Vet. Why I don’t’ know. I mean I’m not going to ask him about the war. I’d like to pick his brain though. Oh who am I kidding, it would be Jennifer Garner. I’d just sit there and drink it in. Maybe David Letterman, Johnny Carson, Christopher Reeve, Harrison Ford, Robin Williams….you get the idea.Image result for jennifer garner dinner texas buyers club
  10. Apart from your own, what is your favourite non commercial hobby movie blog? I have a few favourites. If you’re one of the 11 I chose I’d say you’re one of them. But if it has to be one, it’s Cindy Bruchman. She’s given me confidence in my own blog and there’s never post on her’s I skip. No post is ever too long or too short and they’re about subjects that interest me.
  11. How many movies do you think you watched in the last 12 months? Including ones I’ve already seen I think it could easily be over 400.

I nominate       Cindy Bruchman

  1. Oh my word, those are some tough questions. I will get to thinking. Thanks for the nomination!
By the way, I love James Lipton so great job with that.

  2. Thanks for the mention, Lloyd. I don’t follow the spirit of these awards as in nominating others, but I will happily answer your questions here.
    1) London. (In England, the real one. South of the river. An important distinction.)
    2) I wouldn’t say any sound turns me on in a sexual way, but I have always loved the noise made by guinea pigs.
    3) I can’t stand hammering. Especially when it was above the ceiling when I lived in a flat in Camden. It stops anything happening, that’s for sure.
    4) I have a favourite curse phrase, which is ‘For Fuck’s Sake!’
    5) None of them. I hate talk shows.
    6) Loyalty.
    7) “Merlot, or Shiraz?”
    8) Dr No with Sean Connery. He was the best Bond, but I hate Bond films, so don’t care.
    9) Dressed up in something nice, for a sexy session!
!0) Double question? My dad was a regular soldier, from 1936-1946.
A relationship needs compromise. Should be in capitals. COMPROMISE.
    11) Salma Hyek.
    Hope that covers it mate.
    Regards, Pete.

    1. Yes you’re too quick. I’ve cut 10 (b) since I have 6. Alas I’ve nominated 12 and I have no interest in scratching any one off the list. Thanks for answering the questions Pete. I’ll comment further but for now I’m off to bed. 🙂

    2. I have heard of this important distinction. 🙂 Nice choice with Salma Hayek and another point for Connery so I’ll take it. Let’s go Shiraz? I like 4. I’ve used it myself along with “Fuckin amateur hour.” I don’t know what guinea pigs but Facebook informs me they sure are cute chewing vegetables. Thank you to your father for his service and compromise in capital letters is solid advice. Finally I guess one could say there is hammering when there is hammering and certainly no tongs. 😉

  3. Where were you born? Small town, Ontario
What sound or noise turns you on? good scotch hitting ice
What sound or noise turns you off? movie kissing
What is your favourite curse word? fuck
What is your favourite late night talk show host? i don’t watch tv, but i like james corden

What was the first James Bond you saw at the movies and was he your favourite Bond? Daniel Craig, and no, definitely not
What is one of the sexiest things somebody ever did for you? introduced me to the fabulous world of spa vacations
Did you or somebody close to you ever serve in the military? father in law
There is no such thing as an ugly person only somebody who doesn’t see how beautiful they truly are. Nonetheless out of modern celebrities who do you find the most attractive? Screen persona can inform this as well as the obvious physical attributes. tom hardy!

    1. Jay your undeniable wit has slayed these questions. I don’t exist. Scotch hitting glass. James Corden seems to be the popular late night host for those who don’t regularly watch late night talk shows. No love for Craig eh? Who would be your Bond then? And what do think of Hardy stepping into the role? Spa vacations? Tell me more.

  4. Well deserved, Lloyd. And thank you very kindly for the nomination, my friend. Like Pete, I’ve little time these days to follow-up with posting award responses, but I’ll gladly follow suit in answering your questions:

    1. Where were you born? Life-long Angeleno (Los Angeles, CA)
    2. What sound or noise turns you on? The love of my life, my spouse, coming into a room. 😉

    6. What is the attribute you’ve admired most in a long term partner? As Jay said, loyalty
    7. When you arrive at the pearly gates, what do you hope God will say to you? “Took you long enough!”
    8. What was the first James Bond you saw at the movies and was he your favourite Bond? Goldfinger, as noted here, so of course it’s Connery.
    9. What is one of the sexiest things somebody ever did for you? Put new music into my life at the most tender moments.
    10. Did you or somebody close to you ever serve in the military? Father, father-in-law, uncles.
    11. There is no such thing as an ugly person only somebody who doesn’t see how beautiful they truly are. Nonetheless out of modern celebrities who do you find the most attractive? I’ll go with Peter’s answer, Salma Hyek.

    1. Mierda? I must look into this further. I suppose it couldn’t hurt to look up this Salma Hayek too? Connery kicking ass! May I say I loved all your answers but 9. Was particularly evocative.

  5. Like Pete, I do not accept awards for Pacific Paratrooper – simply because none of the blog is about me. but I’ll try to answer your questions:
    1- NY, USA
    2- most types of music
    3- rap music
4- I don’t have a favorite, but Shit does come out if I hit my hand with a hammer
5- I don’t stay up late enough to pick, but by past watching, Stephen Colbert
    6 – honesty
7 – Everyone has been waiting for you.
8 – Goldfinger, of course Sean Connery
    9 – I don’t kiss and tell
    10- yes
11- to be honest, I don’t know a lot of the new ones by name.

    1. Let me clarify mate, modern applies to the past 500 years. So Grace Kelly or Rita Hayworth or Raquel Welch or Twiggy, etc are appropriate answers. You’re not getting out of it that easy. 😉

    2. Stephen Colbert? You’re full of surprises GP. I love your answer for 7. I think the beauty of the question is how much it can say about the person in random of profound ways. Whether it be I’m militantly atheist or what is your deepest fear or hope or love about life. Throwaway lines like “The band is ready to start”, “You have done well my son.” Or “She’s here.” are elegantly understated but say a lot. Your answer refers to the deepest comfort we derive from faith in a hereafter. It’s not too far of what my own answer would be.

  6. This is very well deserved and cheers for the nom. And I share your love of Jennifer Garner.

Where were you born? In an undisclosed location, hehe.
What sound or noise turns you on? Orgasm.
What sound or noise turns you off? Doors slamming.
What is your favourite curse word? Fuck.
What is your favourite late night talk show host? James Cordon.
What is the attribute you’ve admired most in a long term partner? Honesty
When you arrive at the pearly gates, what do you hope God will say to you? You did good kid.
What was the first James Bond you saw at the movies and was he your favourite Bond? The first Bond movie I saw was Goldfinger and my favourite Bond is Sean Connery.
What is one of the sexiest things somebody ever did for you? Modelled sexy lingerie.
Did you or somebody close to you ever serve in the military? I think one of my grandfather’s served in the Second World War.
There is no such thing as an ugly person only somebody who doesn’t see how beautiful they truly are. Nonetheless out of modern celebrities who do you find the most attractive? Screen persona can inform this as well as the obvious physical attributes. Natalie Portman, she has a charm and vivacity to her. And there is an intelligence there as well as her lovely laugh.

    1. And I share your love of Natalie Portman. All great answers Vinnie, nice to see Sean Connery still considered the best Bond by so many. What do you like about Corden? Have you seen his Carpool Karaoke with Stevie Wonder?

  7. HI Lloyd thank you so much for your very kind words about my blog. You are wrong about, ‘About Time’ I also love that movie so you are not alone.
Connery was and is the only great Bond
I would have picked Morgan Freeman over Harrison Ford.
You may be correct about the 70s being the best decade for movies my only issue is I find that movies prior to the mid 90s are so poor in actual picture and sound quality I find some hard to watch.
i think Elle Fanning is a good selection but I think that in reality it has to be a male star women are just not given an even break as they get older, and I can only see that getting worse.
I regret to say I may now see 100 movies at home for every one I see on the big screen, pretty pathetic for a movie fan.
Star I would like to spend time with Helen Mirren
Favourite blogger, your list of nominations is all good, and Cindy is a worthy choice
I think I see more than one movie a day on average so perhaps 600 or more a year, So its obvious I need another hobby

  8. I forgot to mention that I have seen ‘About Time’. It was alright, but should have been better. Perhaps because Bill Nighy always insists on playing Bill Nighy in exactly the same fashion these days. Whatever the part, he plays it just the same as his last one. Come on Bill, stop being lazy!
    Regards, Pete.

  9. Sorry I haven’t been over to offer my congratulations Lloyd. I was on holiday last week and I’m only just catching up. I’ll be posting up my answers as soon as!

      1. Where were you born? London
What sound or noise turns you on? All the obvious ones
What sound or noise turns you off? Car alarms and alarm clocks
What is your favourite curse word? Not really a swearer for the most part.
What is your favourite late night talk show host? Don’t watch too many. Graham Norton at a push though I imagine there are some good American ones.
What is the attribute you’ve admired most in a long term partner? Honesty/trust/affection
When you arrive at the pearly gates, what do you hope God will say to you? You sure entertained us

What is one of the sexiest things somebody ever did for you? Nice try!
        10. Did you or somebody close to you ever serve in the military? Grandfather fought in the war
        11. There is no such thing as an ugly person only somebody who doesn’t see how beautiful they truly are. Nonetheless out of modern celebrities who do you find the most attractive? Ashley Greene

      2. “Nice try.” Interesting, bringing rugby into the bedroom. 😉 All great answers Alex. I’m fond of Timothy Dalton, Ashley Greene, Graham Norton, honesty/trust/affection equally in a relationship and who doesn’t hate alarms. Their whole purpose is to signify bad news.

  10. Hello Lloyd, thanks for the nomination! Those are quite the questions haha!

    1. Canada

What sound or noise turns you off? My alarm clock.
What is your favourite curse word? Karumba!
